Welcome to Japan — What's Different in FH6
Forza Horizon 6 moves the festival to Japan, and it's not just a reskin. The map is the most vertically complex in series history, with everything from neon-lit Tokyo expressways to snow-capped mountain passes. If you're new to Forza or coming from FH5, here's what you need to know to hit the ground running.
The First 2 Hours: Critical Setup
1. Turn Off These Settings IMMEDIATELY
Pause → Settings → Difficulty. Change these before your first race:
| Setting | Default | Change To | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Traction Control | ON | OFF | TCS kills your acceleration out of corners |
| Stability Control | ON | OFF | Prevents you from learning car control |
| Shifting | Automatic | Manual | Manual gives ~10% more power control |
| Driving Line | Full | Braking Only | You only need to know where to brake |
2. Complete the Horizon Japan Intro (Don't Skip)
The opening sequence (approx. 30 minutes) unlocks Showcase events, the Autoshow, the Auction House, and your first house. Skipping these means you can't access most game features.
3. Your First House — Buy It
After the intro, buy the "Tokyo Bay Apartment" for 50,000 credits. It unlocks Fast Travel. You can fast travel to any road you've already driven on—critical for efficient event completion.
The FH6 Map: Priority Unlocks
Landmarks to Visit First (in order)
- Tokyo Bay Highway — Longest straight in the game. Perfect for speed traps and top-speed testing.
- Hakone Mountain Pass — The primary drift zone. Learn this road for drift zone events.
- Mount Fuji Trail — Dirt and cross-country events center around this area.
- Osaka Docks — Industrial zone with tight corners. Best for gymkhana and technical driving practice.
Festival Sites: Expansion Order
| Order | Festival Site | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Horizon Tokyo (Street) | Road racing series, Online Adventure |
| 2nd | Horizon Mountain (Dirt) | Dirt racing, Rally stages |
| 3rd | Horizon Coast (Cross Country) | Cross country, Danger Signs |
| 4th | Horizon Drift (Drift) | Drift zones, Drift Club storyline |
Car Classes Explained (For Complete Beginners)
| Class | PI Range | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| D | 100-500 | Classic cars, slow off-road vehicles. Skip unless required. |
| C | 501-600 | Entry-level compacts. Early dirt racing. |
| B | 601-700 | Hot hatches, rally cars. Good for learning car control. |
| A | 701-800 | Sports cars and tuned compacts. Your workhorse class for campaign. |
| S1 | 801-900 | Supercars and highly tuned sports cars. Main online racing class. |
| S2 | 901-998 | Hypercars. Overkill for most campaign content. Save for endgame. |
| X | 999 | Maxed-out cars. For speed traps and personal bests only. |
Tip: Stay in A and S1 class for the campaign. These classes have the most event variety and teach you proper racing lines without the chaos of hypercar speeds.
10 Quick Tips for Day-One Players
- Wheelspins are your best friend — Complete Forzathon challenges for Super Wheelspins (3 rewards each)
- Never sell rare cars immediately — Wait 2-3 weeks for auction prices to rise
- Buy the "Skill Multiplier" car mastery perks first — Higher multiplier = faster skill points
- Fast travel boards: Smash all 50 fast travel boards on the map to make fast travel free
- XP boards: 200 boards grant XP. Smash them early to level up faster and earn more wheelspins
- Convoys double your fun — Races with other players (even randoms) give bonus XP and credits
- Photo mode isn't just for screenshots — Photo challenges appear weekly and are the easiest source of Forzathon Points
- Barn Finds unlock passively — You'll get a rumor notification on the map. Don't hunt them manually.
- Blueprint events = easy wins — Search for community blueprints titled "Easy Win" for fast credit farming
- Shift at redline, not before — FH6's JDM cars make peak power at high RPM. Short-shifting kills your speed.
📝 Author's Note: FH6 is designed to be enjoyable at any pace. You don't need to min-max your first playthrough. Explore the map, try different cars, and the credits will come naturally. This guide helps you avoid common early mistakes so you spend more time driving and less time grinding.
