Rust Best Base Designs: Solo, Duo & Small Group Meta (2026)
Solo — The Bunker 2x1
Raid cost: 4 satchels (stone wall) + 2 satchels (sheet door) = 6 satchels to TC
Build cost: ~4,000 stone + 750 metal + 500 wood
Key features: Stability bunker entrance (requires placing a twig half-wall and upgrading before it breaks), hidden loot room behind the TC, shotgun trap angled at the airlock entrance.
How the bunker works: Build a triangle foundation attached to your 2x2. Place a half-wall on the triangle, put a floor on top (this creates an unstable section). The floor will break under its own weight, sealing the room below it. To access your loot: place a twig half-wall, open the floor, grab loot, remove twig (floor breaks again). Raiders see a sealed room and assume it's empty.
Duo — The Frustrator
Raid cost: 16+ rockets to TC (with full honeycomb + pancake layer)
The Frustrator design philosophy: make every wall and door as expensive to raid as possible, while keeping the base compact enough to not attract attention.
- 2-story with external TCs in triangles on all 4 sides
- Honeycomb every floor tile before building upward
- Garage doors everywhere (3 satchels each, same as armored door, half the cost)
- Roof access via a jump-up (broken half-floor you can mantle onto)
- Place shotgun traps on every door frame interior
General Base Rules (All Sizes)
- Airlock everything: Every entrance needs two doors minimum. Never let an open door expose your core.
- Upgrade from inside out: TC room → stone. Inner honeycomb → metal. Outer honeycomb → stone. Roof → metal.
- External TCs are mandatory: Without them, raiders grief your base by placing their own TC and sealing your entrance.
- Don't build in a straight line: Door path should zigzag. If raiders can rocket down a straight hallway, your base design failed.
- Bags everywhere: Place sleeping bags in bushes around your base. If you die defending, you respawn nearby with a DB from a hidden stash.
