Slay the Spire 2 Best Builds & Archetypes: Tier List for A20 (2026)

Build Archetypes That Actually Work

Every Slay the Spire 2 character has 3-5 viable build archetypes. Here are the strongest ones at each Ascension level, ranked by consistency.

Ironclad — Top 3 Builds

S-Tier: Strength Scaling + Limit Break

Core cards: Inflame, Spot Weakness, Limit Break, Heavy Blade, Sword Boomerang

Key relics: Brimstone, Girya, Vajra, Red Skull

Stack strength via Inflame or Spot Weakness, double it with Limit Break, and scale Heavy Blade into 100+ damage. Works at all Ascension levels. Weak to early Act 2 hallway fights that demand immediate damage output.

A-Tier: Exhaust Synergy (Corruption + Feel No Pain)

Core cards: Corruption, Feel No Pain, Dark Embrace, Fiend Fire, Second Wind

Corruption makes all skills cost 0 and exhaust on play. Feel No Pain gives block whenever a card exhausts. Together with Dark Embrace (draw on exhaust), you generate infinite block and card draw. Potentially the highest-ceiling Ironclad build but requires Corruption as a rare pickup.

A-Tier: Self-Damage / Rupture

Core cards: Rupture, Hemokinesis, Bloodletting, Combust, Reaper

Take self-damage to stack strength via Rupture, then heal back with Reaper. Blood for Blood becomes 0-cost extremely quickly. Riskier than pure Strength but faster setup.

Silent — Top 3 Builds

S-Tier: Poison Stacking (Catalyst)

Core cards: Noxious Fumes, Deadly Poison, Catalyst, Corpse Explosion, Bouncing Flask

Catalyst triples existing poison on an enemy. One Catalyst on 8 poison = 24. Two Catalysts = 72. Three Catalysts = dead boss on turn 3. Add Burst (double next skill) for exponential scaling. Corpse Explosion clears multi-enemy fights.

A-Tier: Shiv Spam

Core cards: Infinite Blades, Cloak and Dagger, Blade Dance, Accuracy, After Image

Generate and play 4+ Shivs per turn. After Image gives 1 block per card played — with Shivs costing 0, you get free block every turn. Weak to Time Eater (the boss that limits cards per turn).

A-Tier: Discard Engine

Core cards: Calculated Gamble, Acrobatics, Tactician, Reflex, Eviscerate

Discard cards, gain energy (Tactician), draw more cards (Reflex), repeat. Eviscerate costs 3 but returns to 0 cost after enough discards. Highest card manipulation potential but requires precise sequencing.

Defect — Top 2 Builds

S-Tier: Frost Orb Stall

Core cards: Glacier, Coolheaded, Blizzard, Defragment, Capacitor, Consume

Fill your orb slots with Frost orbs (passive block), scale focus with Defragment, use Blizzard as a finisher that deals damage equal to (number of Frost orbs channeled × 3). Unkillable once set up — block 40+ per turn passively.

A-Tier: Lightning Orb Burst

Core cards: Electrodynamics, Ball Lightning, Tempest, Static Discharge

Channel 4-6 Lightning orbs with Electrodynamics and watch enemies evaporate. Strong against multi-enemy fights, weaker against single bosses.

Regent (NEW) — Stance Dance

The Regent cycles between Calm and Wrath stances:

  • Calm stance: Gain 2 energy when exiting. Use for setup turns.
  • Wrath stance: Deal double damage, take double damage. Use for burst turns.
  • Core cards: Tranquility, Crescendo, Rushdown, Mental Fortress, Flurry of Blows
  • Strategy: Enter Calm (gain energy), exit into Wrath (double damage), attack, re-enter Calm before the enemy's turn (to avoid taking double damage).

Necrobinder (NEW) — Minion Army

  • Core mechanic: Summon 0-cost minions that have varying effects, then sacrifice them for powerful payoffs
  • Core cards: Raise Dead, Soul Link, Dark Ritual, Bone Shield, Army of Darkness
  • Strategy: Flood board with cheap minions, use Soul Link to redirect all damage to them, sacrifice damaged minions via Dark Ritual for massive block/energy/damage bursts.
  • Warning: Relic-dependent. Prioritize shops for minion-enhancing relics.
